Identitarian deference and the Muslim vote
The call for voters to defer to minorities has vanished as Muslims turn against Democrats.
New poll results from the Council on American-Islamic Relations paints a catastrophic picture for Kamala Harris, who has now fallen into second place among Muslim voters in the US. Green Party candidate Jill Stein, meanwhile, commands a plurality of the Muslim vote at 42.3%, while Trump remains stuck in single digits with 9.8% of the vote.
This is terrible news for Harris, particularly in states like Michigan, where Democrats have historically relied on Muslim turnout in places like Dearborn to win. The polls in Michigan have been turbulent, but those that include Stein have consistently cut into Harris’s lead over Trump — and in some, like a Thursday poll from Emerson College, third party votes hand Harris a narrow loss.
